Hunger Free America in the News

HFA's Joel Berg and Dawn Pierce with Chobani's Rebecca Dittrich, Kelly Herrgesell, and Katie Barnhall

Community leaders and anti-hunger advocates learned about the state of hunger and food security in Idaho and gained tools to move from hunger relief to sustainable food security.

Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, stated, "No one should be shocked that when the government takes away food, as well as money to buy food, hunger increases."

We Put Hunger on the Run!

On Sunday, more than 50,000 runners took to the streets of New York City for the NYC Marathon. Among them were 5 amazing athletes who ran in support of Hunger Free America! All 5 of our runners completed the course, and raised tens of thousands dollars to help fight hunger in America. Congratulations to Avery, David, Eddie, James and Mandy!

Community Organizing Manual

Last month, Hunger Free America released our Community Empowerment Handbook! For 20 years, we have sponsored community-based food action boards. This handbook explains why it is vital for food and anti-poverty organizations to empower people with lived experience with food insecurity to become leaders in the anti-hunger movement – and provides a nuts-and bolts guide on how to do so.

Veterans Day Volunteer Event

Hunger Free America operates the USDA Hunger Hotline, an essential resource providing information to people in need on their local food banks, pantries, and SNAP/WIC offices.  As volunteers participating in this virtual group opportunity, you will place calls to food pantries, soup kitchens, and SNAP/WIC offices across the country to verify and update existing data in our National Database. The HFA team will provide an introduction and training for the task, and support participants throughout the session. Participants need access to a computer and phone

Action Alert

Last month, the US Congress passed a stopgap bill aimed at avoiding a government shutdown. The bill, however, only funds the government for 45 days, which means that pretty soon we may be right back where we started, unless the House and Senate can pass a year-end spending bill.

Will you take a moment to ask Congress to fully fund WIC and agree to no SNAP cuts in year-end budget deal?

Call or email you local Rep and Senator and make sure they know that SNAP and WIC funding must be a priority.
