Friend,
“We were standing inside the hospital gate when the ambulance was directly hit in front of us,” said Dr. Obaid, a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) doctor in Al Shifa hospital, Gaza’s main and busiest hospital. “Many were killed immediately, while we rushed others to the operating room for emergency care.”
On Friday, November 3, a deadly airstrike struck an ambulance outside Al Shifa hospital, where Dr. Obaid and other MSF staff work daily to provide lifesaving medical care.
There is no safe place in Gaza for civilians to take shelter.
MSF continues to call for an immediate and total ceasefire and the restoration of the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Patients, health workers, civilians, and health facilities must be protected at all times.
Our staff who remain in Gaza are physically and mentally exhausted after a month of indiscriminate bombing and an overwhelming number of injured patients. Still, they are working to save lives.
Supplies are dangerously low, with doctors operating on patients with inadequate supplies of painkillers and anesthesia, and no post-operative care. Still, they are working to save lives.
Our teams are describing a medical emergency that is worsening every day. They are seeing mass casualty events that would test even the most well-equipped hospitals. Still, they are working to save lives.
This email was sent from the U.S. section of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care.
