Hello from the OCCRP newsroom,

We're hosting a discussion next week about our big new investigative project, "NarcoFiles: The New Criminal Order," which uncovered the inner workings of modern-day organized crime groups in Latin America.

This webinar is ideal for anyone interested in the evolution of the global drug trade or how OCCRP carries out large reporting projects.

What to Expect In This Webinar

NarcoFiles, led by OCCRP and El Centro Latinoamericano de Investigación Periodística (CLIP), is primarily based on a leak of over seven million emails from the Colombian prosecutor’s office. The trove was initially obtained in 2022 by a group of “hacktivists” known as Guacamaya.

In this 45-minute webinar, you can expect journalists to discuss:

  • Criminal Empires: How organized crime groups have fanned out around the globe, permeating economies, corrupting authorities, and expanding their reach across borders.

  • New Business Models: How criminal gangs are innovating and evolving their business models in the face of new economic incentives and opportunities for experimentation.

  • The Murky World of Ports: Commercial ports have become a hotbed of criminal activity, from Antwerp and Rotterdam to Gioia Tauro, Guayaquil, Santa Marta, and LimĂłn.

  • Dark Money: The underground flows of illicit drug profits and the financial professionals who help enable these crimes.

  • Green Crimes: The environmental impact of organized crime, and how their activities are destroying wildlife, polluting rivers, and threatening protected areas.

  • Police and Thieves: The role of law enforcement agencies who are on the front lines in the fight against organized crime — but sometimes become part of the problem.

There will also be time for questions from the audience at the end.

Thank you so much for your support. Reply to this email with any of your questions.
