On November 2nd we reported on our efforts to Censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, when over 20 Republicans chose to vote down a resolution aimed at censuring Rep. In an extraordinary move, the House voted 234-188 to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan over her rhetoric on the Israel-Hamas war demonstrating that, even when you think you’ve lost a battle, you keep fighting!
This rebuke, one step below expulsion, followed criticism of Tlaib's views and her delayed condemnation of a Hamas attack. Despite initial Democratic support, over 20 Democrats joined Republicans, citing concerns about her frequent use of a slogan seen as advocating Israel's eradication. Censure, though symbolic, marks severe reproach.
This second pass at censure largely came from educating members of both major parties on the meaning of the slogans “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and “Free Palestine” chanted by Tlaib and Pro-Palestinian Hamas groups which is a clear call for the complete annihilation of the Jewish people in the land of Israel. Fighting to make sure both Democrats and Republicans knew the truth helped persuade over 20 Democrats to cross over and 17 of the 20 original hold-out Republicans to pass this measure.
Tlaib is the second Muslim-American woman censured in 2023 for criticism of Israel, following Rep. Ilhan Omar's removal from a committee in February.
Re. Tlaib is from the West Bank where the ruling Fatah recently organized summer camps in Bayta, featuring military training for children and adolescents which range from 5,000 to over 13,000 students a year. [ [link removed] ]Disturbing videos circulated on Palestinian social media depict youths, some armed with rifles, undergoing training in urban warfare tactics, hand-to-hand combat, and negotiating obstacle courses. Operatives from both the Palestinian security forces and local armed Fatah members supervised the training. This move follows Fatah's increased involvement in recent violent clashes, such as Operation Wave Breaker in Jenin and Nablus, where Fatah and the Palestinian Authority (PA) actively encourage hostilities.
Notably, Bayta was chosen strategically, given the region's history of clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians protesting the establishment of the Eviatar outpost. The annual summer camps, which typically take place in the Gaza Strip, have been orchestrated by various factions, with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad leading most. While activities like sports, art, and computer sessions are part of the agenda, these camps also involve ideological indoctrination, glorification of terrorists, and military training—a worrisome trend that further fuels tensions in the already volatile region.
These summer camps are held annually and perhaps shed light on Re. Tlaib’s passionate defense of Pro-Palestinian Hamas, including her calls for the extermination of Jews in the land of Israel. It’s heartbreaking to realize the ruling parties in both the West Bank and Gaza have been indoctrinating their children to hate, train to kill Jews, and are programmed from birth to reject a two-state solution.
