This is monumental news: Ohioans just resoundingly voted to enshrine abortion access in our state’s constitution!
Voters came out in droves to send a clear message: Ohioans believe women’s health care decisions should be between them and their doctors, not politicians.
Moments like this make me especially proud to be an Ohioan – and to represent my state in the Senate. We’ve seen midwestern states show up again and again to protect reproductive freedom – including in Michigan last year. Michigan might be our rivals on the football field, but I’m happy to be joining them in the family of states that have protected abortion access. And now that we've protected abortion access in Ohio, I promise you that I'll continue to work every day to make sure women’s rights to make their own health care decisions are also protected nationwide.
But here's the deal: I'm up for reelection, and I'm running against three anti-abortion extremists – all of whom would support a national abortion ban. In addition, our neighbors up north have an open Senate seat to defend, and every Republican in the race supports a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. The latest polls show that both my race and Elissa Slotkin’s race are neck and neck, and our Democratic Senate majority is up for grabs.
If we’re going to win these key races and protect abortion rights from Mitch McConnell, we need your grassroots support.
So today, as we celebrate this victory, I'm personally asking you to help me keep up our momentum: Will you chip in a contribution. to be split between me and Elissa Slotkin to defend Ohio and Michigan’s Democratic seats and protect our pro-choice Senate majority?
