Get Ready! Geography Awareness Week Is Just Around the Corner
To kick off Geography Awareness Week, share the importance of geography and the world around us with your students. The Statistics in Schools (SIS) program has a variety of geography-related resources that use real-life data to show students more about the world around them.
From a data-driven, cross-country scavenger hunt to engaging them in the discovery of census data that highlights geography's impact on communities and lives, there is something available for all grade levels. Our activities cover a range of topics: students can use maps to analyze education and income and examine photos and data to determine how environments change over time.
Did you know the SIS program has classroom-ready maps available? These colorful, two-sided maps showcase Census Bureau data including student friendly facts such as the youngest and oldest states, average family sizes, highest and lowest median incomes, and more.
