Dear Tarrant County Taxpayer,

I’m Rick Barnes, and I’m running for Tarrant County Tax Assessor Collector because taxpayers in Tarrant County are paying unbelievable taxes right now. We need to lower taxes all across Tarrant County, and I take that responsibility seriously. To that end, I have outlined the 5 chief pillars of my platform designed to ensure competent governance and lower taxes across the board in Tarrant County.

1. Limit Appraisal Increases to a Maximum of 5%

Too many Texans are taxed out of their homes because the government’s appraisal value gets more excessive every year. I will lead the TAD Board to ensure that no TAD appraisal increases by more than 5% for tax purposes.

2. Be a Tireless Advocate for Tarrant County Taxpayers

My opponent loves being in the government and forgot that she serves the voters of Tarrant County. I will always remember to represent the taxpayer first and will be your voice while working with taxing entities, the Tarrant Appraisal District, and elected leaders at every level of government.

3. Make Sure Texas Treats Tarrant County Taxpayers Fairly

A new Texas law frees Texans from mandatory auto inspections -- unless they live in Tarrant County. My opponent was missing in action when the legislature was discriminating against Tarrant County residents with this tax. I will work to eliminate this biased tax.

4. End Tax Revenue for Sanctuary Cities in Texas

Thanks to the conservative leadership in Texas, sanctuary cities are outlawed. Unfortunately, too many liberal cities flagrantly violate the law. I will work to ensure no tax money from Tarrant County—or anywhere else in Texas—will go to any city that violates this law.

5. Bring Ethics Back to the Office

While serving as the Mayor Pro-Tem of Keller, I wrote a Code of Ethics for the city government that those Keller officials still follow today. I believe so strongly in leading with ethics that I will write and enforce an ethics policy that will serve as a guide for the Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office.
