Friend --

This weekend, we're lucky to be part of a historic moment as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Eastern Market <[link removed]>, one of the oldest continually operating markets in the United States!

<[link removed]>Everyone has an Eastern Market story or memory -- many of us have artwork in our homes made by an artist we first met at the market. We get groceries, snacks, art, music, and more from the market. Of course, whether you're buying something or not, just walking the market is a favorite pastime for many.

Given the central role Eastern Market plays for many Ward 6 neighbors, I wanted to send a special note to make sure you knew all the fun activities and celebrations happening to mark the moment.?

Things kick off Friday evening as Eastern Market Main Street hosts "Novemberfest" in the North Hall, featuring live music and food and drink from local vendors. This is a ticketed event, and you can learn more here <[link removed]>. I'll be leading a toast to kick off the weekend.?

Then Saturday, there's a slew of fun activities available for all ages, including historical tours, a children's story time from East City Books, live music, a "Cluss Clues" family scavenger hunt (named cleverly after Eastern Market's architect, Adolf Cluss), a highwheel bicycle demonstration, Victorian flower arranging lessons, a silhouette artist, and more. Full schedule and hours available here:?[link removed]

On Sunday, in addition to more fun activities, make sure you get to the market by 11:30 am to join neighbors as we officially mark the 150th anniversary. Eastern Market first opened for business on November 12, 1873. We'll mark the occasion with a brief program to celebrate the past, the present, and the future of this great institution.?

Hope you can join for the fun!?

P.S. - We're also getting close to another celebration - the 2023 Ward 6 Brickie Awards - coming up on December 6th, 6-8pm. It's always a fun free event with food and drink with awards that celebrate the people and places that make our community so great! And right now, nominations are open for potential winners! Nominations close next Friday, and all the info you need is here <[link removed]>.
