(LANSING, MICH) The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is proud to announce that it has achieved the designation of Michigan Veteran Connector, demonstrating the department?s commitment to Michigan veterans through raising awareness of the resources and benefits they earned through their military service. The Veteran Connector initiative is part of the Governor?s Challenge to reduce suicide among service members, veterans, and their families. ?DIFS is proud to be a certified Michigan Veteran Connector to further our commitment to Michigan?s military service members, veterans, and their families,? said DIFS Director Anita Fox. ?As we observe Veterans Day and throughout the year, we take pride in supporting those who served our country by helping connect them with the services and support they earned through their service.? DIFS becomes one of eight State of Michigan units to be certified as a Michigan Veteran Connector. The program is facilitated through the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA). ?We congratulate our fellow state departments for their direct role in supporting our veterans as Veteran Connectors,? said MVAA Director Brian L. Love. ?Based on our work through the Governor?s Challenge program, we know that the earlier we identify and connect our Michigan veterans to services and resources, the sooner we can lower the risk for self-harming behaviors including suicide.? Participating in the Michigan Veteran Connector initiative is just one way the Department supports Michigan veterans.
