John, today I'd like to tell you about one of my personal heroes, John Lewis. His decades of service to this country had immense consequences on our civil rights, and I had the privilege of meeting him when he joined me on the campaign trail during my very first race in 2018.

John Lewis was part of a generation that gave so much to have a voice.

He was beaten and bloodied as he peacefully protested – just because he believed that a true democracy was one that included every American.

His actions made our democracy stronger and led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act.

But now, nearly 60 years later, Republicans nationwide are making unprecedented attacks on the fundamental right to vote. They won't stop putting up barriers until the only Americans who can vote are those who will keep them in power. 

I'm committed to defeating anti-voting rights extremists like Ted Cruz. But I need to know you stand with me, John. Will you add your name to my petition to protect voting rights for all? We need to show Texas and the country we won't let our fundamental right to vote be stolen →

Whether it's racist voter ID laws, gerrymandering, or even limiting voting methods, Texas has seen the worst of the GOP's campaign against democracy. They've targeted our state's largest and most diverse counties to stop Democrats from winning and keep themselves in office. 

I'm not going to stop fighting until every American's fundamental right to cast a vote is secured and protected. But to do that, I need your support: Will you sign your name and join me in demanding that our fundamental voting rights are protected? →
