I hope this email finds you well. My name is Tarria Stanley, and I am a Regional Advocacy Manager here at Community Justice.
You probably heard that in February, the Fifth Circuit ruled that a law prohibiting individuals subject to domestic violence restraining orders from having guns was unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. Thankfully, the Supreme Court took up this case for their review yesterday, and I knew my voice needed to be heard.
I stood with our partners and advocates from across the country and spoke at a press conference on the steps of the Supreme Court. I want to share the personal story that inspires my activism on this issue.
A few years ago, I found myself trapped in an abusive relationship. I did not believe I was a victim of abuse. If the person that abused me had access to a gun, I might not be here today. Far too many victims never get the chance to share their stories, so survivors must carry their voices. |
