We need to speak up. We need to take action.

In the face of hateful rhetoric, ideologies, and violence, we need to give a full-throated response.

But President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would rather do nothing at all. They’d rather take orders from the NRA’s wallets than do the right thing for the American people.

JOIN ME AND DEMAND ACTION TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE →

No other country comes close to the number of mass shootings that take place in ours. Trump has tried to shift the conversation away from guns. He would like us to believe that gun safety measures won’t make a difference, but evidence shows that gun laws can save lives. And if there’s an opportunity to save lives, it seems to me that there should be no question and no moment of hesitation of whether we should act.

But that is precisely what McConnell is refusing to do. He has offered thoughts and prayers but not his action. And frankly, it’s an abdication of his duties as a public servant.

For years, Democrats have spoken out against the growing gun violence in our country. Since winning back the House, our Democratic Majority has taken decisive action to prevent future violence. We passed a bipartisan effort to expand background checks that are supported by 97% of Americans and close the “Charleston loophole.” And most important: It can help save lives.

We are calling on McConnell to call the Senate back into session to immediately address gun violence.

But until all of us come together and demand action to prevent violence, tragedies like the ones in Chicago, Dayton, El Paso, and Gilroy will keep happening.

We have to be unified: We need to gather 10,000 signatures to tell Mitch McConnell to take up our plan to end gun violence, so we can finish what we started. Will you join us? Add your name.

Never let up,

Nancy
