John,
With what we believe to be record turnout for a District G election, voters have chosen to continue the discussion about who can best be their voice at City Hall!
Frances and I are tremendously grateful for all our supporters, donors, and activists across every neighborhood who propelled our campaign into the runoff.
While we came in second in last night’s election, we know with your continued support we can make up ground. When you’re the son of a butcher and a high school cafeteria worker, you’re no stranger to long hours and hard work.
I started this campaign just two months ago. My opponent has been on City Council for two years. In just two months, residents of District G saw enough to know they weren’t ready to rubber stamp another term for Mary Nan Huffman. The more District G learned about her, the more they voted for new leadership.
The people of our District know we need a fighter so we can get the services we deserve. We pay 33% of this city’s taxes and receive 13% of its services. Broken water lines pour water onto our streets for weeks at a time. Violent crime affects us all. The city budget lacks accountability and transparency. Our current member of council voted to raise property taxes. Multiple times.
Those things matter; I’m not backing down from talking about them.
As we officially begin the runoff, I have five core promises to you.
Hundreds of new police officers on the street in the first year;Evict lobbyists from city hall;Publish a street maintenance schedule with priorities and my personal push behind it;Clear answers to how our tax money is being spent (including the drainage fee), which will eliminate waste and fraud; And, finally, I’ll never vote to raise your taxes like my opponent did.
Let’s get this done!
