Daily Caller ([link removed]) (11/7/23) reports: "A watchdog organization is requesting that the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) inspector general investigate a bureaucrat playing a key role in President Joe Biden’s push to force Americans into electric vehicles (EVs), according to a copy of the letter obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The complaint, sent by Protect the Public’s Trust to DOT Inspector General Eric Soskin on Monday, alleges that Biden violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act (FVRA) when he appointed Ann Carlson to serve as acting administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The FVRA stipulates that the president cannot appoint an acting officer to a position if the individual did not serve for at least 90 days as the chief assistant to the vacant job or if the president submits their nomination the Senate for appointment
during the 365 days prior to the vacancy arising, and the alleged violations of these clauses would mean that Carlson’s appointment was illegal and that any actions she has taken in the role 'shall have no force or effect,' according to its text...Carlson, formerly chief counsel for the agency, had served as acting administrator of NHTSA since September 2022, upon the resignation of the former administrator, according to the White House. Biden announced that he would nominate her to run the agency on a permanent basis in February 2023, but Senate Republicans tanked her nomination, largely because of her previous statements about using high energy prices as a launching pad for the green transition and other comments indicating her support for hardline climate policy, forcing Biden to withdraw her nomination in May. Since the withdrawal, she has remained in the post on an acting basis and oversaw the agency’s proposed updates to the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards in July,
which would drive up automobile costs and amount to an 'EV mandate,' Dan Kish, senior research fellow for the Institute for Energy Research, told the DCNF at the time."

(11/8/23) reports: "Firefighters called to extinguish an electric-vehicle fire are discovering the surest approach is to stand back and watch it burn. Electric cars combust differently than their gas-powered counterparts. Firefighters and researchers said EV fires last longer, are harder to put out and have a tendency to reignite. First responders in Franklin, Tenn., faced their first burning EV in September, a Nissan Leaf that ignited while charging outside the car maker’s North America headquarters. They spent hours pouring 45,000 gallons of water on the car, compared with the 500 to 1,000 gallons that fires involving gasoline-powered vehicles usually need, Fire Marshal Andy King said. 'I think if we were faced with a similar scenario next time, we might need to let it burn,' he said. Nissan said it is investigating the cause of the fire. It isn’t clear how frequently EV fires take place, but as the cars become a larger part of the American fleet, some fire departments see them as a
growing nuisance. Firefighters in Florida’s North Collier District responded to six last year after a storm surge brought by Hurricane Ian caused saltwater to get into EV battery compartments, which can cause short-circuits. "

In wealthy countries, strategies often revolve around electrifying cars — and for good reason, many are looking to Norway for inspiration. Over the last decade, Norway has emerged as the world’s undisputed leader in electric vehicle adoption. With generous government incentives available, 87 percent of the country’s new car sales are now fully electric, a share that dwarfs that of the European Union (13 percent) and the United States (7 percent)...I’ve been writing about transportation for the better part of a decade, so all that fawning international attention piqued my curiosity. Does Norway offer a climate strategy that other countries could copy chapter and verse? Or has the hype outpaced the reality? So I flew across the Atlantic to see what the fuss was about. I discovered a Norwegian EV bonanza that has
indeed reduced emissions — but at the expense of compromising vital societal goals. Eye-popping EV subsidies have flowed largely to the affluent, contributing to the gap between rich and poor in a country proud of its egalitarian social policies. Worse, the EV boom has hobbled Norwegian cities’ efforts to untether themselves from the automobile and enable residents to instead travel by transit or bicycle, decisions that do more to reduce emissions, enhance road safety, and enliven urban life than swapping a gas-powered car for an electric one. Despite the hosannas from abroad, Norway’s government has begun to unwind some of its electrification subsidies in order to mitigate the downsides of no-holds-barred EV promotion."
