John, yesterday and all year long, you helped Common Cause make a huge impact for voters. Thank you.
I’ll be honest: I was worried that with the presidential race dominating everyone’s attention, folks would have a hard time focusing on the very real and very important election happening this year!
But Common Cause members came through in a big way – and because thousands just like you stepped up – speaking out, sponsoring volunteers, or even volunteering yourselves, we were able to help voters who needed us.
Here are some highlights:
-
Ohio: Our team DEFEATED a partisan attempt last August to deny voters their right to decide directly on issues they care about through ballot questions – a power they used last night to protect abortion rights among other issues.
-
Virginia: We joined our partners to get legislative candidates on the record about our pro-democracy agenda – and helped make sure every eligible voter was able to cast their ballot.
-
Florida: We helped voters navigate every aspect of casting their ballots – despite underfunded election offices, deliberately confusing voting rules, and Gov. Ron DeSantis's repeated attacks on civil and voting rights.
-
Mississippi: Our student fellows registered and educated voters on three campuses and made 5,000 calls to Mississippi students the day before election day to remind them to turn out – culminating in a march to the polls yesterday to keep young people excited about participating in democracy.

At this exact moment, we’re applying the lessons we learned this year as we embark on our 2024 effort, which is already underway. Because the simple fact is, we’ll need to go even bigger than our record-breaking mobilization for 2020 to address the multiple threats voters face.
Election deniers are STILL pushing disinformation about our elections – which we know are safe, secure, and fair. But that fact hasn’t stopped extremist state lawmakers from using those lies to pass anti-voter laws and build new barriers to the polls.
That’s where our team comes in. We’re working with elected officials to secure pro-voter reforms ahead of 2024. And we’re already recruiting Election Protection volunteers for next year's election so every voter can safely and securely cast their ballot and have it count.
None of this would be possible without you. And we want to hear from you! If you voted or volunteered in yesterday’s elections, please use this form to share your story – whether you ran into problems, or everything went well. Your responses will help us identify what went well and what didn’t in preparation for the 2024 elections >>
As a Common Cause member, you know better than most that democracy is not something we can take for granted – it’s something we must work for every day. So as we look ahead to 2024, I’m glad to know we can continue to count on you.
In common cause,
Sylvia Albert, Director of Voting and Elections
and the team at Common Cause
P.S. We’re already hard at work preparing for the 2024 elections – and we could use your help. Please consider chipping in if you’re able to today.
