*Trial Date Set for Prudenville Man Accused of Stalking County Administrator*





*LANSING* ? On Tuesday, Evan Baker, 32, of Prudenville, appeared in the 82nd District Court in Roscommon County for a Pre-Trial Hearing on one charge each of Stalking and Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, and the Court set a trial date in April of 2024, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Each count is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year of imprisonment.

Baker is accused of sending, over several years, hundreds of private emails to the Roscommon County Administrator/Controller having nothing to do with her official position or responsibilities. On August 14, 2023, the County Administrator/Controller ordered Baker to stop sending her emails that were unrelated to her job. Despite this admonition, Baker sent more than fifty emails that day alone and left two voicemails. He continued to send emails to the County Administrator/Controller up to the day of his arrest on October 6, 2023.?

?Local officials should be accessible to the public they serve, but when these communications channels are abused for malicious purposes, we must defend them from harassment and stalking,? said Nessel at the time of Baker?s arraignment. ?Stalking such as this takes a very real toll on a victim and can easily escalate to threats upon their safety. This incessant harassment is illegal, whether directed at a public servant or a private citizen, and my office will prosecute it to the fullest extent of the law.??

Baker?s Final Pre-Trial hearing is scheduled for February 6, 2024, with a trial start date of April 4, 2024.
