John,
Last night, voters across Indianapolis made their voices heard and re-elected me to a third term as mayor. I’m incredibly honored and humbled to be entrusted with this responsibility.
I want to thank my campaign staff, our supporters, and our amazing volunteers. I truly can’t express my appreciation enough. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work you all put in day in and day out. This victory is ours.
I’d also like to thank the people of Indianapolis. Over the past eight years, we have stood together through good times and tough times. It was the people of our beautiful city who kept this campaign focused and energized, and that won’t stop today.
I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past eight years. We passed seven balanced budgets, put a billion dollars towards new infrastructure, invested in our police officers and in the root causes of violence to secure back-to-back years of the largest reduction in murders in IMPD history.
We emerged out of the depths of the pandemic to host March Madness, brought hundreds of thousands of fans back to the Speedway and hosted the College Football National Championship.
We’ve helped change how people think of criminal justice, getting rid of private prisons and making unprecedented investments in mental health.
We’ve begun transforming our parks and trails, making it possible for every resident to enjoy high-quality public spaces and have laid the groundwork for a resurgence of Downtown and development across Indianapolis.
But, like I said when I announced this campaign, our work is far from done.
We still have progress that needs to be made, guns to get off our streets, affordable housing to build, students to support and small businesses to empower.
We will need you over the next four years because change doesn’t come solely from the Mayor’s Office. It takes advocates, neighborhood leaders and community stakeholders to shape our city government into one that serves everyone.
We have tremendous opportunities ahead to make good on our progress. Now is our chance to show what Indianapolis is truly made of, so let’s get back to work.
Thank you, Indianapolis.
