Alaska has the highest rate of female homicides by a male perpetrator in the nation -- and more than 84 percent of Native women in Alaska will experience violence in their lifetimes.

Dan Sullivan knows about this. Last year he said that Alaska "unfortunately, has the highest rates of domestic violence and sexual assault of any state in America. It is horrendous."

But Dan Sullivan and Mitch McConnell won't take the first step and reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, which they let expire a year ago.

Dr. Al Gross knows that millions of women have gone without the support they need since VAWA expired a year ago. We need the Senate to reauthorize the bill as soon as possible.

Since last February, millions of domestic violence survivors have gone without access to the support and services they need and deserve. The void hits especially hard here in Alaska, where over half of all women will experience intimate partner or sexual violence in their lifetime.
