Dear John,

Yesterday, millions of Americans went to the polls to vote in critical state and local elections. In places like Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, and Florida, confusing and strict voter ID laws threatened people’s right to vote.

I am so proud of the entire VoteRiders team and our thousands of partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters, who worked so hard to get people voter ID information and free help so that they could vote yesterday.

Here’s a brief snapshot of what we were able to accomplish, thanks to your volunteer work:
* We helped nearly 5,000 voters obtain the ID and underlying documents that enable them to register and vote, many for the very first time. For numerous voters like Fandrea in Texas, Alexander in North Carolina, and Denise in Georgia, these IDs helped them secure more stable housing or employment opportunities as well.
*Partner organizations and our field program staff distributed over 530,000 Voter ID Information cards in English and Spanish to ensure voters knew what they needed to bring to the polls and how to contact us if they needed help.
*Volunteers wrote almost 40,000 handwritten letters to targeted voters in our priority states, made 4,000+ phone calls, and sent upwards of 3.4 million text messages to remind folks about ID requirements in their states.
*Across social and traditional media, we reached millions with updated information about ID laws where they live.

All of this during a so-called “off-year,” when so many people tune out politics. Thank you for staying invested in our democracy and the voter ID services that we provide year in and year out.

Voter ID laws undermine and distort our democracy. They create unnecessary and expensive barriers to the voting booth, block millions of voters from participating in the democratic process, and make our country weaker, less representative, and less inclusive.

What we saw yesterday was the culmination of VoteRiders' work, bolstered by the efforts of thousands of supporters helping voters overcome those barriers and make their voices heard on the issues of importance to them.

It was a good day for democracy — but we have no time to rest. There is less than one year until the 2024 presidential election, and the health of our democracy is at stake. We have to scale up our work together, and do it quickly.

I’m grateful for your time helping voters who need information and ID assistance. I look forward to the great things we will do together in the coming year.

With gratitude,

Lauren Kunis
