A House Member Called to Ban and Expel Palestinians in America, We’re Not Letting That Happen Dear Email, Yesterday, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action (AJP Action) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) sent a joint letter to the Biden Administration advocating for the rights of Palestinians in America. This letter urges the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and authorize Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Palestinians currently in the U.S. These designations would protect non-citizen Palestinians to remain in the United States. This action comes in direct response to a bill introduced by Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) and ten other Republicans, aiming to ban Palestinians from entering the U.S. and potentially expel those already here. The situation in Gaza, marked by the ongoing genocide by the far-right Israeli government resulting in over 10,000 civilian deaths, including more than 4,800 children, alongside the apartheid policies in the occupied West Bank, has rendered it unsafe for many Palestinians to return home. TPS and DED stand as the morally correct alternatives to the exclusionary and potentially harmful proposals like Rep. Zinke's. These measures would ensure that Palestinian individuals can continue to live and work in the U.S. without the looming threat of deportation. AJP Action and CAIR have stated: “Amidst the violence and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank, it is imperative that Palestinians in America on limited visas are allowed to remain in the country until it is safe to return home. Rep. Zinke’s bill is a stark representation of anti-Palestinian sentiment that jeopardizes not only the security of America but also the safety of Arab and Muslim Americans based on their nationality and perceived religion.” We will continue our efforts and urge you to stay informed and active in the fight for Palestinian human rights.
