This week, I supported a coronavirus response package that will provide $8.3 billion in federal funding to combat the spread of coronavirus and helped secure at least $13 million for North Carolina's emergency preparedness.
With the second reported case of coronavirus in North Carolina, the health and well-being of every North Carolinian is my top priority and I will continue to work to keep you up to date and ensure we have the support and assistance needed to combat and contain the coronavirus.
Securing Disaster Relief for North Carolina
North Carolina is unfortunately all too familiar with the human and financial cost of natural disasters, which is why I’ve worked hard to secure billions of dollars in recovery funding for families and local communities and why I’ve led the effort to cut government red tape to deliver assistance to North Carolinians sooner. I recently introduced The Hazard Eligibility and Local Projects (HELP) Act, legislation that would expedite the start of certain hazard mitigation projects after natural disasters, while grant applicants await federal assistance through FEMA’s hazard mitigation grant program.
Fighting for Life
I also recently voted in favor of two critical pro-life bills, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
I voted to protect unborn children at 20 weeks after fertilization and to ensure that newborns have the care they need and deserve. Both bills failed to pass after Senate Democrats blocked the measure, but I will never stop fighting for the sanctity of life.
USMCA Becomes Law
In January, President Trump signed the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement into law. This agreement is great for farmers, small businesses, and workers in North Carolina and across the country and will create hundreds of new jobs.
North Carolina is the ninth largest agricultural economy in the country, with nearly $90 billion a year in agriculture products. I have proudly supported the USMCA from the beginning and I applaud President Trump for carrying it across the finish line.
Thank you for reading my e-newsletter, I will continue to work hard to represent all North Carolinians in the Senate and deliver results. If you or someone you know is having trouble with the VA or any federal agency, please don't hesitate to contact my office.
All the best,
