Hi there,

We wanted to share some updates and takeaways from Election Day! 🗳️

A few highlights from last night:

Allison Spillman won her contentious school board race against the youngest daughter of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who shares many of her late father's right-wing views. (For example, she was in favor of outing LGBTQIA+ students against their consent). We are relieved and excited for Allison to serve the students of her district!

Lashrecse Aird won her race for State Senate in Virginia! When Aird was a representative In the Virginia House of Delegates, she fought for public school funding, abortion protections, and “Breonna’s Law,” which prohibited no-knock search warrants. We can’t wait to see what she’ll accomplish as a State Senator.

Rae Cousins won her race for VA District 79 – helping secure a Democratic majority in the VA House of Delegates! Rae is a mom, lawyer, and community activist who decided to run for office because she knew her legal skills could be used to advocate for the people in her community. She is ready to stand up for abortion access, stronger public schools, and affordable health care as Delegate.

There were many more wins where those came from, and we’ll send a more comprehensive recap later this month. We also had some unfortunate losses, like our Attorney General candidates Pam Stevenson and Greta Kemp Martin. We are eager to see them run for office again soon with a head start and improved name recognition among voters in their states.

We are now turning our attention over to the make-or-break 2024 election cycle. We have already started interviewing candidates running up and down the ballot and across the country. We’re gearing up to provide them critical support as EARLY in the cycle as possible – when women candidates need it most.

But that’s not all: We’ve launched Her Bold Move Florida to join a bipartisan coalition on the ground working to pass a constitutional amendment protecting access to abortion. In order to get the constitutional amendment on the ballot by November 2024, this coalition must submit 891,523 valid petition signatures to the state by February 1, 2024. We will all be working hard over the next few months to pull this off. Once the measure is on the ballot, it will require support from at least 60% of voters to pass. As we saw last night, when the right to abortion is on the ballot, it wins every time. Voters unequivocally choose reproductive freedom. So, we are going to fight hard for Florida voters to have the chance to make their voices heard.

We have big plans for 2024, and we will keep you posted every step of the way. But for now, we wanted to thank you for your amazing support this election cycle. We could not have had such a successful election night without you.

Together,

Colleen Davis
