The polls have closed and the election workers and campaigners now turn their attention back to the work ahead. I'm deeply grateful for the overwhelming support our campaign received in all parts of our great city. I never take any vote for granted and I will continue to work for progress and a thriving Charlotte for all of our residents.

Turnout in the general municipal election was 15.47% (approximately 120,074 votes cast out of 776,318 registered voters). I know many of us worked hard to encourage voting in our local elections.

I thank all of our campaign volunteers, all voters for your participation, and the Board of Election pollworkers for their dedicated work to ensure a smooth and fair election. A healthy democracy requires the informed participation of its citizens – at the local, state and federal level.
