Coinciding with Trans Awareness Week, we're hosting a webinar on November 14 at 10 a.m. ET about Outright's recently launched “Celebrating Legal Gender Recognition ([link removed]) " campaign. This webinar is inviting panelists who have shared their stories as part of the campaign, and they will speak to the issues of self-determined legal gender recognition.

The conversation will address the following:
1. The current legal landscape surrounding gender recognition.
2. The impact of self-determined legal gender recognition on trans-diverse individuals' lives.
3. Challenges faced by trans people when seeking legal gender recognition.
4. Strategies or initiatives aimed at promoting self-determination within legal frameworks.
5. Personal experiences or success stories related to self-determined legal gender recognition.

Opening Remarks ([link removed])

Neela Ghoshal (any pronouns) is Outright’s Senior Director of Law, Policy & Research, based in Washington D.C. Neela oversees Outright’s United Nations, Global Trans Rights, LBQ Connect, Queer Legal Futures, and Research programs, develops organizational priorities concerning legal and policy change, and ensures Outright’s work aligns with international human rights law. She is the author of Outright’s report on LGBTQ Lives in Conflict and Crisis and frequently speaks and writes about issues including repressive legislation, gender liberation, and peace, security, and accountability for LGBTIQ people.

Moderator ([link removed])

Rikki Nathanson (she/her/hers) is the Senior Advisor of the Global Trans Program, based in the Washington D.C. area. In her role, she serves as an expert on Outright’s work, supporting efforts on legal gender recognition and strengthening the trans and intersex movements globally. Rikki brings a wealth of experience in global trans advocacy combined with a long track record in the business management and nonprofit sectors.

Antonia Moreira (she/her) is a writer, human rights advocate, and impact strategist. She is currently the Director of Operations and Project Coordinator at Brazil's award-winning Ateliê TRANSmoras Association, focused on the economic empowerment of trans people. In 2023, she was a fellow of the Human Rights Advocates Program at Columbia University in New York City.

Oscar Noel Fitzpatrick (he/ him) is the Consultant to both the Global Youth and the Sex Characteristics Programme at ILGA World. He is a multidisciplinary activist, artist, facilitator, and researcher. Oscar obtained his BA in Drama & Theatre Studies from Trinity College Dublin and his MA in New Media & Digital Culture from the University of Amsterdam (Universiteit van Amsterdam). Oscar is additionally conducting ongoing research and advocacy in the intersecting areas of digital citizenship and digitally mediated anti-gender violence.
