"Pothole Pete staged fake bike rides to the White House and used private planes funded by taxpayers to receive awards for the way certain people have sex!" wrote the "Congresswoman" in a press release. Oookay.

Rashida Tlaib, the sole Palestinian American in Congress, because she had the gall to take a stand for the humanity of Palestinian people and oppose the US support for the mass slaughter unfolding in the Gaza Strip. For Republicans, free speech only applies when you're saying exactly what they want you to and any suggestion that Muslims are human beings will not be tolerated. She is in good company; former president John Quincy Adams was censured by the House for his promotion of slavery abolition. Marjorie Taylor Greene and the rest of her Islamophobic cronies will not be found on the right-side of history.

It wasn't all good news from last night, unfortunately; incumbent governor Tate Reeves fended off an inspiring challenge from Democrat Brandon Presley (yes, he's related to THAT Presley) that was much closer than to be expected in a GOP stronghold. While it was always going to be a tall ask to be the first Democrat to win the governor's office in 20 years, Presley's six-point loss is a reminder that Democrats can and should compete in red states.

Trans Texas Student stripped of theater role over school’s new gender policy
A Texas high school senior who identifies as transgender was cast as the lead role in the school play only to have it taken away by a new policy that said actors can only play roles according to the gender they were assigned at birth. Max Hightower said he was devastated after being cast as the male lead in “Oklahoma!” at Sherman High School. He had previously played traditionally female supporting roles in other school productions but was allowed to wear male dress. This is what the Republican war against the trans community ultimately boils down to: inflicting pointless cruelty on innocent people to pander to religious bigots.
