It has been a busy few weeks in Washington, D.C., with most of the activity revolving around selecting a new Speaker of the House. I am glad to report we selected Mike Johnson of Louisiana to serve in this role. Mike and I knew each other before either of us were elected to Congress. He is the real deal and, I believe, exactly the right person to lead the House at this very difficult time. He is someone committed to making the changes we desperately need to make. He is also committed to a conservative policy agenda that is long overdue in Washington.
I hope that you will read this newsletter to learn more about the work I am doing on your behalf in our nation’s capital. If you ever want to express your thoughts or comments regarding legislative issues, please call our D.C. office at (202) 225-4921 or email me through my website. War in Israel
When President Biden enables our enemies around the world, our friends suffer. This is exactly what we have been witnessing in Israel. The attacks being made against Israel by the Hamas terrorist group are wicked and inhumane. Israel has every right to defend themselves against these barbaric attacks and prevent them from happening again. The United States must always stand with Israel.

Bring Americans Home Act
Americans should not be forced to foot the bill for the misplaced priorities and poor leadership in the White House. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that the Biden Administration is forcing Americans trapped in Israel to pay for their own way home. This is unacceptable, especially when you consider the Biden Administration is using taxpayers’ money to pay airfare to fly people who crossed our border illegally to other parts of the country. When American citizens are caught in an emergency, the United States should step in and help them get home. To prevent this from happening again, Congressman Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) and I introduced the Bring Americans Home Act.

Biden Impeachment Inquiry
It is now a well-known fact the Biden family has accepted money from foreign adversaries in exchange for access to Joe Biden while he served as Vice President. The American people deserve transparency regarding whether any crimes have taken place. As a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, I was able to participate in the first hearing of the Biden impeachment inquiry. I promise we will not stop investigating and will follow where the evidence leads us.

Speaker of the House
For the first time in history, the Speaker of the House was removed from their position using the motion to vacate. As I pointed out in my introduction above, the Republicans in the House united around a solid conservative, Congressman Mike Johnson, as our new Speaker of the House.
During our search for a new Speaker, several options were considered. I was a strong supporter of Jim Jordan due to his leadership abilities and conservative principles. Unfortunately, not all Republicans were willing to unite around him for Speaker. After this, I put my name in the hat for Speaker. Our party doesn’t need a personality as a leader, we need a plan and steady, conservative leadership. I introduced the ‘Palmer Principles,’ my plan for major changes to our appropriations process to prevent the introduction of big omnibus appropriations bills. Once the remaining candidates committed to similar principles, I removed my name from consideration in efforts to help us find a majority candidate as soon as possible.
Speaker Mike Johnson is a principled, unwavering conservative who will live out his faith in God as he serves the country. I am looking forward to working with him to help lead our country forward.

Protecting Our Borders
In August, over 200,000 people entered our country illegally. That is nearly the population equivalent of Shelby County entering our country in one month. In fact, 2022 set the record for the highest number of illegal border crossings in a single fiscal year with at least 100 of those being known terrorist suspects. We are still unsure just how many terrorist suspects got away and are currently in the interior of our nation. Biden created a crisis at our southern border, and it is time for him to acknowledge it. Read more about the efforts of my colleagues and me to secure the southern border using the links below:

Government Funding
Congress’ fiscal year runs from October 1st – September 30th. Before September 30th, we must pass 12 different appropriations bills in the House and Senate for the government to be funded. On September 30th, the House and Senate passed a continuing resolution to fund the government until November 17th, giving us almost seven more weeks to pass our appropriations bills. I could not support the continuing resolution because it did not make sufficient cuts to government spending, which are badly needed. We are $33 trillion in debt and that debt is growing at a rate of $1 trillion every three months. We must get our fiscal house in order, or our country will face dire consequences. Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) and I have had very substantive discussions about balancing the budget, and we believe we can balance the budget in ten years. In order to make this a reality with no gimmicks, we have to adopt the reforms to appropriations I am introducing to avoid major increases in spending.

Ending Overregulation
Once again, Biden bureaucrats are trying to control every aspect of our lives. The newest regulation aims to control what types of air conditioning units that Americans can purchase. To prevent this, I introduced an amendment to the 2024 Energy & Water Spending Bill to stop this regulation.
