Passage of Issue 1 11/7/2023
Columbus, Ohio – On November 7, 2023, Ohioans enshrined a woman’s right to choose into the Ohio Constitution. This necessary amendment was passed thanks to the countless number of volunteers, activists, physicians, and voters who continued to beat the drum on how important it is that reproductive health care is safe and accessible for everyone.
Ohioans have clearly been supportive of abortion rights. Despite this, a small, radical minority of Republicans did everything in their power to rig this election. They used taxpayer funded resources to reject this amendment, through blatant lies and state funded propaganda. Even with all the noise, Ohioans made their voices heard, loudly and clearly: we want the right to choose.
“I’m so proud of our state. The people of Ohio had an opportunity to right a wrong and they did exactly that,” said Minority Leader Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood). “Thanks to Ohio voters, we’re protecting women and reproductive health care in this state for the foreseeable future.”
Sincerely,
Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio
