It's hard to believe, John, but it's true: Philadelphia has never elected an out LGBTQ+ person to the city council. But tonight, that has changed! Rue Landau just declared victory, shattering this lavender celling once and for all!
Tell Rue CONGRATULATIONS and wish her good luck on the city council!
Over the course of her storied career, Rue has always prioritized LGBTQ+ rights. She and her wife Kerry were the first same-sex couple to get a marriage license in Pennsylvania. As an activist with ACT UP, Rue fought to improve the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS, before leading initiatives to expand the city’s Fair Practices Ordinance and Fair Housing Ordinance, added civil rights protections, and worked to strengthen laws by adding protections for the LGBTQ+ community.
We know that she'll be an outstanding advocate in office - and ensure LGBTQ+ rights are protected. Add your name to tell her CONGRATULATIONS here!
Thanks for celebrating with us,
