Jack, President Biden and Senate Democrats have done an amazing job of getting our courts back on track after Donald Trump’s ultra-conservative overhaul of the federal bench, confirming extraordinarily qualified people with diverse and traditionally underrepresented personal and professional backgrounds.
However, GOP senators have slowed progress, leaving Biden to trail Trump in judicial confirmations. Confirming more LGBTQ+ judges will not only help ensure LGBTQ+ representation at a critical time, it will also reduce Trump's influence on the judiciary.

A record number of anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced into state legislatures in 2023—everything from censoring books and drag shows to prohibitions on medically-necessary health care for transgender people. Many of these outrageous laws will make their way to federal courts; and the rulings will shape our nation's laws for years to come.
Nominating LGBTQ+ judges isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about the real, demonstrated impact of representation. Of the nine openly LGBTQ+ judges Biden and Schumer have confirmed to lifetime appointments on the federal bench so far, most have strong civil rights expertise that has already led to landmark LGBTQ+ rights cases. When a case comes before a federal court that could ban trans people from public accommodations or deny queer couples the freedom to parent, these are the judges we want ruling on the case—not someone handpicked by the Federalist Society.
LGBTQ+ Americans are already underrepresented in the judiciary. As right-wing state legislatures push their bigoted agenda through our courts, now is the time to ensure that our judiciary reflects a fuller spectrum of experiences and perspectives within our nation. Ramping up confirmations for LGBTQ+ judges will help lessen Trump's impact on the judiciary and help deliver equal justice for all.
