The fossil fuel industry has long treated the U.S. Gulf Coast as a sacrifice zone, a place to put all their toxic, climate-destroying production as though no one lives there.
That’s why on Friday, we helped kick off our month-long global mobilization to power up a renewable future in New Orleans with “Power Up in the Gulf,” united alongside dozens of our climate movement partners, frontline activists, advocates, and talent from across the Gulf region to say no more.
In solidarity with the resilience and joy of frontline Gulf communities, Power Up in the Gulf highlighted the collective resistance against the environmental impacts of methane gas production and exportation. The discussions, enriched by the experiences and voices of those directly affected, sent a clear message to Big Oil: The Gulf is not a sacrifice zone.
The event was brought to life through the partnership with key organizations such as the Vessel Project of Louisiana, Louisiana Bucket Brigade, and Sunrise Movement New Orleans, among others, who were instrumental in its success.
While our Power Up in the Gulf action is over, we’ll continue to mobilize worldwide over the coming month to create a global drumbeat building up to the UN climate talks, calling on world leaders to power up a renewable energy revolution!
More soon,
