Friend,

Over the past month, children across the Gaza Strip and Israel have paid the highest cost for a crisis that they didn’t start. The number of children killed in this conflict has now exceeded the total number of children killed due to conflicts globally all of last year.

In Gaza, more than 4,000 children have been killed — on average, that’s 134 deaths every day since violence escalated. Over 2.2 million people, half of whom are children, lack reliable access to safe water, food and medicines. Hospitals, schools and refugee camps have been attacked. More than 1.5 million people are internally displaced.

In Israel, more than 200 people, including children, have been taken hostage. Rockets and the threat of violence continue to traumatize families. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced.

The conditions facing children within Gaza and Israel are horrific.

Amid constant violence and heightened challenges to delivering humanitarian aid, UNICEF and its partners remain dedicated to meeting the urgent needs of children.

Thanks to the support of people like you, UNICEF and partners have so far been able to:
- Move more than 30 trucks into Gaza through the Rafah Crossing — the only current path for aid — reaching an estimated 1 million people including more than 560,000 children, with safe water in shelters
- Deliver essential relief like medicines, water bottles, hygiene kits, child protection and psychosocial support services to thousands of children in Gaza
- Scale up efforts to ensure the protection of unaccompanied and separated children in Gaza
- Pre-position additional emergency supplies including that can be brought into Gaza in a matter of hours
The response on the ground comes alongside UNICEF’s efforts to continue to call for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of abducted children, and unrestricted humanitarian access to allow aid to reach children.

Our community is helping UNICEF provide support and hope for children and families who need it the most.

If you’re able to give, you can help strengthen UNICEF’s emergency response efforts to protect children.

UNICEF is doing everything possible to reach children in need — but the delivery of humanitarian aid is extremely challenging because of the siege conditions imposed on Gaza and the highly dangerous circumstances under which UNICEF staff are operating.
