If Congress doesn’t pass new spending bills, the government shuts down, and
many activities stop.

This may seem like a great way to block big government.


However, shutdown politics actually cost the American people far more in the
long run!

John, decades of drama have shown us—trying to leverage government shutdowns
to create meaningful change in Washington simply does NOT work.

‌


In fact, keeping shutdowns from being possible would do more to end the cycle
of Washington’s runaway spending and crushing debt through one bloated omnibus
spending bill after another.

‌


That’s why I’m excited for the bipartisan solution Sens. Jim Lankford (R-OK)
and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) have proposed: The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act.

‌


It’s a needed return to the way Congress budgeted before the Jimmy Carter
administration unilaterally changed the game, and I’m excited to support it.
