The deadline for the House to pass a budget and avoid a government shutdown is next Friday.
And what is Speaker Mike Johnson doing to keep our government open? Not a damn thing, friend.
Instead of putting pen to paper, Johnson is spending the week trying to prove to his Republican colleagues that, despite having passed zero meaningful legislation during his time in Congress, he’s ready to take the reins of his party.
Look, it’s not hard to see Johnson’s long-game here: He wants to galvanize the base, scare the markets, and blame Democrats for whatever economic nightmare results from Republicans’ governance-by-crisis.
This is the same strategy that led to our last nail-biting budget deadline and the ultimate removal of Kevin McCarthy from the Speaker’s chair — it’s all but guaranteed to fail this time, too.
Americans cannot afford to keep pushing off this economic crisis every month, friend. Help my Democratic colleagues and I put pen to paper so we can permanently avoid this shutdown, take back the House in 2024, and stop this chaos for good »
