Dear John,

I believe that access to quality, affordable health care is a right, not a privilege. That's why I'm working hard every day to expand access to health care for those in Alabama's 7th Congressional District.

If you are in need of health care coverage for 2024, I have an important message: The open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace is now underway!

Visit HealthCare.gov to see if you qualify for a low-cost health insurance plan. Even if you already have health insurance, you may qualify for a more affordable plan! Alabamians have until January 16 to enroll in coverage for 2024, and those who sign up by December 15 will have coverage that begins on January 1.

Thanks to the work of President Biden and Democrats in Congress, millions of Americans can get quality, affordable health care through the ACA at little to no cost. Last year's open enrollment period was the most successful in history, with almost 16 million Americans signing up for coverage. Now, eighty percent of people can find coverage through the Marketplace for $10 or less per month.

And that's not all. With the Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats capped the cost of insulin at $35 per month for seniors on Medicare, and starting in 2025, no senior will pay more than $2,000 per year on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs.

The Inflation Reduction Act also allows Medicare to directly negotiate prescription drug prices for the first time in history so that our seniors can get a better deal.

In this nation of so much wealth and prosperity, no one should have to choose between putting food on the table or purchasing life-saving medications. I know that these provisions will allow our seniors to breathe a sigh of relief, and I will keep fighting for lower health care and prescription drug costs for Americans of every age.

DO YOU SUPPORT EFFORTS IN CONGRESS TO LOWER PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS?

To be clear, our work is far from over. Across Alabama, we've seen a string of hospital closures that have made it harder for those living in rural communities to get the services they need. No one should have to travel hours to receive medical care, which is why I'm working hard to get my legislation—the Save Rural Hospitals Act—passed and signed into law. I'm also working to bring more doctors and medical professionals to rural and underserved communities with my Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act.

I will continue to vigorously oppose attempts by my colleagues across the aisle to cut Medicare, strip Americans of their health care coverage, and roll back our progress. Working together, I know we can build a health care system that works for every Alabama family.

As always, please be sure to check in regularly with our website and social media pages (TwitterFacebook, and Instagram) for updates. If you'd like to share your thoughts or concerns, you can email me here.

Today and every day, it is an honor to serve you in Congress. Take good care.

Sincerely,
