Dear John,

Celebrate Parents Against Vaping's fifth anniversary by watching two of our cofounders in Netflix's recently released four-part docuseries about Juul and how the company created the youth vaping epidemic.

In Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of Juul, Dorian Fuhrman and Meredith Berkman describe how the company's sneaky marketing tactics targeted teens -- including their own sons -- and how a 2018 high school assembly led them to build the first and only national parent voice fighting back against Juul; the vaping companies that followed its example; and the predatory behavior of the tobacco industry.

According to the CDC’s 2023 National Youth Tobacco Survey, more than 2.1 million middle and high school students are currently vaping, with more than one-out-of-four doing so on a daily basis and almost 35% vaping more than 20 of the last 30 days, suggesting addiction. Additionally, while use among high-schoolers declined, there is an alarming increase in use among middle-schoolers. CDC figures released last July show that 10% of all young adults ages 18 to 24 are vaping as well.

We've accomplished a lot since 2018, but our work is far from over. We need to double down on our important work: educating families about the dangers of youth vaping and tobacco use and advocating for laws to protect kids from harmful flavored products that will negatively impact their health for many years to come. With your partnership, imagine what we can do in the next five years!

Sincerely,

The Parents Against Vaping Team
