** Leadership
------------------------------------------------------------

In this week’s Leadership newsletter, we look at the ways community and philanthropy can come together to organize toward a common cause. First, a new initiative led by the MacArthur Foundation seeks to invest at least $500 million into bolstering local journalism efforts across the United States. Next, from Nonprofit Quarterly Magazine’s summer issue on “movement economies,” lessons from those community members who are trying to change the world without a playbook and without the “experience” traditionally considered required to get it done. Then, organizing seeks wins, but movements often can’t control wins or losses, as Mo Mitchell reflected in a recent NPQ webinar. A more fundamental purpose of community organizing is the building of common cause. Finally, NPQ is partnering with Alliance magazine to offer deeper insights into philanthropy and social justice movements. Our special joint subscription offer ends November 30.
