Winter Wonderland opening up

winter wonderland

Old Market Square has once again been transformed into a Winter Wonderland, open from today until Sunday 31 December.

The Sur La Piste and Altitude ski chalet bars will be returning, as well as the themed Ice Bar kept at a chilling -10 degrees (opening at noon on Wednesday). Festive fun-seekers can skate around the square on the Sky Skate ice path (opening at 5pm on Thursday) or enjoy the ground-level ice rink.

You can also complete your Christmas shopping with a range of market stalls selling hand-made gifts, delicious food and hot toddies, or get a twinkling view of the city on the observation wheel.

To avoid disappointment and to skip queues on the day, it's recommended to book in advance for ice skating, bar experiences and observation wheel fast-track access. Nottingham city residents can also receive a 10% discount on super off-peak and off-peak skating bookings.

Nottingham Green Partnership is making the city more sustainable

green partnership

Nottingham Green Partnership has released its annual review of progress made to make the city more sustainable. By working on their own initiatives, organisations in the city are supporting Nottingham?s ambition to be a carbon-neutral city by 2028.? ?

The past year saw a number of city-wide achievements which have led to Nottingham being recognised internationally as one of the world?s leading cities for climate action.?

Nottingham?s Green Partnership has been working for 31 years to promote green issues and sustainability in the city of Nottingham and has made great progress to date. The group is made up of more than 40 organisations from across the city, including both public and private sector companies.???

As the City Council is only responsible for around 2% of Nottingham?s carbon dioxide emissions, we need all organisations to help us reach our aim. I appreciated meeting with them today at the University of Nottingham to continue the city?s journey to a greener future.

You can read the annual review and find out more about the Nottingham Green Partnership on the Carbon Neutral Nottingham website.?

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance

I will be at the Victoria Embankment to mark Remembrance Sunday, paying respect?to the men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country. This year holds particularly significance with a number of key anniversaries in our history, including:

  • 70 years since the armistice which ended the fighting of the Korean War
  • 60 years since the last National Servicemen were demobbed
  • 75 years since of the arrival of settlers from the Caribbean on the Empire Windrush, we also remember the connections between the armed forces and the Windrush Generation, as well as the part they played in rebuilding post war Britain.

It is also important that we recognise as part of this year?s Act of Remembrance, the on-going conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza and Israel. We will remember in our thoughts and prayers all those who continue to suffer as a result of war.

Evidently violence can cause distress to people in Nottingham and I am absolutely clear that we take a zero-tolerance approach to any hate crimes again Muslim or Jewish citizens. At this difficult time it is essential we remain united as a city and continue to be good neighbours to one another.
