John,

I hear from San Franciscans all the time about retail theft, car break ins, and even violent crime in our city. People are frustrated. I understand why.

Every one of us deserves to feel safe in the neighborhoods where we live and work. That’s why I’m leading the passage of a new ordinance that would put more foot-beat officers on our streets, and implement a community policing strategy. This legislation is a meaningful step to reduce crime and the Board of Supervisors is holding a final vote on it today.

The ordinance would create a data-driven strategy for increasing police presence in the areas that need it most. It would require the Chief of Police to work with the captains in each police district to assess where crime is most rampant and then deploy foot and bike patrols to those areas. Bringing a visible police presence to the streets will help stop crimes before they happen and promote closer relations between police and the communities they protect.

I hope you’ll forward this email to others who are concerned about crime in our city so they know we’re working hard to improve public safety. I look forward to voting on this ordinance later today.

Thank you,

Ahsha
