The New York Times just released new battleground state polls — and I’m not going to lie: The numbers are ugly. Biden is losing to Trump in five of six key states. He’s down by double-digits in Nevada.

I’ve already heard from a few friends extremely worried about what this means for an election we all know is essential to the future of our democracy. Here’s what I tell them: Yes, we should be alarmed and face the reality that Trump could win next year.

But we shouldn’t panic. When you dig a little deeper, these numbers paint a clear picture of the work we must do. Perhaps the most glaring stat in my eyes: Voters said they prefer Trump to Biden on national security issues by a whopping 12%. With the global crises in Israel and Ukraine, that’s a signal that we need to get serious and more strategic about reaching voters on these issues — with strong messages and stronger messengers.

Operation Saving Democracy is laser-focused on doing just that. We’re a campaign of true American patriots — from former generals and military leaders to ambassadors — all speaking out on the dangers Trump poses at home and abroad.

We plan to set up camp in key battlegrounds over the next year to ensure that message doesn’t get lost. Now we know we have our work cut out for us.
It’s true that, if the election were held today, Donald Trump might prevail, potentially marking the end of democracy as we know it.
