What does Budget 2024 mean for young people and youth services?
In Budget 2024 we called for a total package of €264m to address challenges facing young people including the cost-of-living crisis, accommodation shortages, youth homelessness and the need for increased youth work supports.

Youth Homelessness Figures
The number of people aged 18-24 accessing emergency accommodation in Ireland was 1,510 last month, almost a 20% increase on the 1,263 young people facing homelessness at the same time last year. We are renewing calls for the National Youth Homelessness Strategy to be properly funded and implemented.

ESRI report sparks call to end youth rates of minimum wage
On 2nd November, we welcomed the publication of an ESRI-Low Pay Commission report on Sub-Minimum wages in Ireland, saying the report provides further impetus for the abolition of sub-minimum rates of the minimum wage for young workers.

November 6th - 10th is Stand Up Awareness Week! This week focuses on encouraging post-primary schools, youth services, and Youthreach centres in Ireland to take a stand against homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic bullying.

YWI: Connecting You App
Connecting You is an interactive app for young people that allows then to very quickly find information on services and issues relevant to them. The app was launched at the Infonomics: Facts Matter conference hosted by Youth Work Ireland and Youth Work Ireland Tipperary which took place on October 4th and 5th in Ballykisteen, Co Tipperary.

ECO-UNESCO: Eco Week
Taking place over 13th - 17th of November, ECO-UNESCO are hosting ECO Week of FREE events dedicated to promoting a sustainable future. From understanding the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to delving deep into climate change, biodiversity, and marine conservation, young people will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to make a positive impact

VSI: Youth for Climate Justice Project
VSI are looking for young people aged 18 - 25 to take part in their free Youth for Climate Justice project at the end of November!
Participants will meet for interactive and informal workshops on climate justice, both online and in-person in Dublin.

Foróige: Vaping Research Report
Foróige Sligo, in partnership with the North West Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force (NWRDATF) and Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB (MSLETB), commissioned research to understand the impact that vaping products have on children and young people in Ireland through listening to their direct experiences of vaping.

VSI: In-person Meetup
Join VSI at their in-person meetup on Saturday, November 25th! It will take place in Dublin from 14:00 until 16:00. Each month, a VSI volunteer hosts a workshop on a relevant topic of their choice, usually related to VSI's values of social justice and sustainability. For anybody interested in volunteering, meetups offer a casual space to learn about VSI and the opportunities available, and to meet like-minded people.

Gaisce: Future Generations Climate Justice Conference
This November, Gaisce – The President’s Award will host Future Generations: A Gaisce Climate Justice Conference in celebration of One World Week (18-25 November). One World Week brings together people from diverse backgrounds, around the world, to recognise the difference we can all make to build a more sustainable future.

Professional Youth Work in Ireland: An Occupational Study
Aidan Farrelly, a doctoral student in the Department of Applied Social Studies, Maynooth University is undertaking a research study to develop an occupational profile of youth workers in Ireland. This will explore topics such as education and training, pathways into the profession, job titles, roles and responsibilities and rewards and challenges.
