Trump forgot what years he was president while on the stand in New York trial
During bungling testimony for his $250 milion civil fraud case, the increasingly incoherent, disgraced ex-president claimed that he wasn't paying attention to his company because he was "so busy...focusing on Russia and China and keeping our country safe" — in 2021, when he definitely was not president or anywhere near the White House. Let's definitely keep talking about cognitive decline on the campaign trail, though.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump attorney loses it in meltdown outside of courtroom
Future former Trump attorney Alina Hubba sold out her integrity the moment she took on the serially indicted grifter as a client. Now, she's thrown out the last of her dignity with a delusional, sanctimonious speech on the steps of the courthouse that sounded like it could have been belched by Donald himself.

Innocent people die as Israel-Hamas war rages
MoveOn.org: Over 10,000 people have been killed in the Israel-Hamas War while 2 million Palestinians, most of whom are children, lack access to food and water. As if things weren't bad enough, the conflict itself threatens to engulf the entire region! Will you add your name to call for a de-escalation and to stop more Palestinians and Israelis from being killed?
US diplomats slam Israel policy in leaked memo
State Department staffers offered a blistering critique of the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war in a dissent memo obtained by POLITICO, arguing that, among other things, the US should be willing to publicly criticize the Israelis. The message suggests a growing loss of confidence among US diplomats in Biden’s approach to the Middle East crisis and lays out two key requests: that the US support an immediate ceasefire, and that it balance its private and public messaging toward Israel, including airing criticisms of Israeli military tactics and treatment of Palestinians that the American government generally prefers to keep private.

GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson and teenage son monitoring each other’s porn intake is worse than you think
In a resurfaced video from 2022, the newly minted, Bible-thumping House speaker admitted that he and his son monitor each other’s porn intake using a third-party subscription software called — we aren't making this up — Covenant Eyes that watches all their electronic devices. Aside from the cringe of having your son keep tabs on your porn intake — and vice versa — the implications of having one of the most prominent leaders in US government under the watchful eye of an intrusive software have not been lost on some, who rightly believe the app poses an obvious national security risk.

President Biden visits Delaware to promote $16 billion for passenger rail projects
Living up to his "Amtrak Joe" nickname, the president unveiled a historic investment to upgrade and repair public transportation systems crucial to the everyday lives of normal, hard-working Americans. Meanwhile, Republicans can barely scrape together enough focus to elect a speaker in a chamber they control.

Special counsel pushes back on Trump's motions to dismiss Jan. 6 case
Pulling no punches, special counsel Jack Smith's team filed a lengthy response to Trump's desperate motions to dismiss his federal election interference case on statutory and constitutional grounds, saying the disgraced ex-president "stands alone in American history for his alleged crimes" and that he carried out an "unprecedented campaign of deceit to attack the very functioning of the federal government." If the rhetoric is this harsh in filings, just imagine what the actual trial will be like.

5 Republicans qualify for third 2024 presidential debate
And then there were five (on TV). In additon to the 315-lb. elephant (not) in the room, the once crowded GOP primary field has now been informally winnowed down to Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Tim Scott. Barring some massive, unforseen upheaval, none of them have any real shot of actually securing the nomination. More likely, these also-rans are jockeying for a crack at Trump's vice presidency slot — which is a bit like competing for a ticket onto the Titanic.

Republicans are now mad that Pete Buttigieg drives his family around in a minivan
The transportation secretary's utterly innocuous comment about driving a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid around with his children in it was seized upon by the RNC and rabid conservatives, who then managed to twist it into homophobic attacks on Buttigieg and his family. The party of FaMiLy VaLuEs, folks.
2nd police officer acquitted in death of Elijah McClain, who was put in a neck hold, given lethal dose of ketamine by paramedics
Two of the three officers to face trial in Elijah McClain's death so far have been found not guilty, leaving the victim's mother, Sheneen McClain, and police reform advocates still searching for justice. Elijah’s tragic 2019 death fueled national outrage about racial injustice in policing after the 23-year-old Black man was put in a now-banned neck hold and injected with an overdose of ketamine after police stopped him as he walked home from a convenience store. McClain went into cardiac arrest shortly after and died three days later. In the most recent trial, a 12-person jury found Aurora officer Nathan Woodyard, not guilty of homicide and manslaughter following a weekslong trial in state district court. He faced years in prison if convicted.
