This week, Poynter and PolitiFact are hosting smart conversations with leading voices ([link removed]) across the political spectrum during our third annual United Facts of America ([link removed]) . There’s still time for you to register to join this free festival of fact-checking that runs through Wednesday.
Yesterday, we covered what voters can expect in 2024, the impact of vaccine misinformation and Russia’s disinformation campaigns.
Today, PolitiFact’s new editor-in-chief ([link removed]) , Katie Sanders, will get to know what the average American voter really wants with Sarah Longwell, publisher of The xxxxxx and host of “The Focus Group” podcast.
“Longwell’s podcast offers lively real talk from focus group participants, revealing voter attitudes on Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump and the GOP primary contenders,” said Sanders. “If anyone can tell us what various voting groups are thinking at this stage of the campaign, it is her.”
We’ll also discuss the facts about Trump’s charges with Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg and Jon Sale, a white collar criminal defense attorney in Miami, former Watergate special prosecutor and a former attorney for Rudy Giuliani who declined a request to represent Donald Trump.
Finally, we’ll get the scoop on PolitiFact’s newest venture for Spanish-speaking audiences, PolitiFact en Español, with Telemundo51’s Gloria Ordaz.
Tomorrow, we’ll examine the threat of artificial intelligence in the Israel-Hamas war with PBS NewsHour weekend anchor Hari Sreenivasan and Felix Simon, communication researcher and doctoral student at the Oxford Internet Institute.
Later, festivalgoers will enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at how PolitiFact’s on-the-ground reporting team prepares to fact-check a U.S. presidential debate at 7 p.m. Eastern, one hour before they cover the third Republican presidential primary debate in Miami.

How Any Journalist Can Earn Trust
Self-directed course, start any time
We have to stop assuming people understand the mission, ethics and processes behind our work in journalism. We can’t let ourselves get lumped in with perceptions of “the media.” Instead, we need to actively work to earn trust from our communities by telling them why we’re worthy of their time, trust and support.
This online, self-directed course, developed in partnership with our friends at Trusting News, ([link removed]) will help you understand mistrust and gain a better understanding of what trust in news looks like around the world. Examples and activities are designed for non-U.S. news media and fact-checking organizations, in collaboration with Poynter’s International Fact-Checking Network. If you are based in the U.S., check out this version ([link removed]) instead.
Cost: Free.
