Congress Passes Coronavirus Bill to Assist Response Efforts
This week, the House passed $7.8 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations to assist President Trump’s response to Coronavirus.
This is not a time for political games. I’m glad Congress pulled together to pass a clean, bipartisan funding bill to assist the Trump Administration’s response to the Coronavirus. Americans want a vaccine. Hospitals need test kits. Small businesses need help. Our bill will accelerate those efforts and greatly increase our capabilities in fighting this virus.
I applaud Vice President Mike Pence’s leadership in bringing together our health policy experts to address this crisis. I am praying for the families already affected by the virus and I want to thank our incredible health care workers on the front line of this outbreak.
Although the National Institutes of Health and pharmaceutical companies are working on a vaccine, there is currently no vaccine to prevent Coronavirus. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.
The CDC recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases such as the Coronavirus, including:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

Rallying in Support of Louisiana’s Pro-Life Law
I joined a coalition of pro-life groups, Members of Congress, and elected officials from Louisiana to rally at the U.S. Supreme Court this week in support of Louisiana’s pro-life law that would require all abortion providers to have admitting privileges at local hospitals when emergencies arise.
The rally was held in conjunction with oral arguments in June Medical Services v. Russo to stand in support of protecting the basic health and safety rights of women and children.
In January, I led over 207 Members of Congress in filing an amicus brief to stand up for Louisiana’s pro-life law.

It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
God Bless,
