Charlotte's Solar Power is Increasing
Tuesday, Nov. 7 is Election Day: Polls Close at 7:30 PM

Fifty percent of Charlotte’s city-wide greenhouse gas emissions come from how we power our buildings. Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Central is the first city building to have solar panels with a solar battery. More than 44,000 kilowatt hours of battery storage will help offset 11% of CMPD Central’s electricity use – all powered by the sun.

27 city buildings now have solar, are about to get solar, or are being designed to house solar panels. More info here. To learn more about the city of Charlotte's Strategic Energy Action Plan click here.

Charlotte also started a new initiative “Power Down the Crown” to encourage businesses and organizations using a building(s) to track and reduce energy use by 10% by 2030. Learn more about the program here.
