The Women Fighting for Better Health
==========================================

You may feel unsure and maybe a little scared as we watch the spread of the Coronavirus around the globe. The uncertainty is high, and many challenges to stopping the spread seem daunting. Fortunately at Project HOPE, we know that there is a network of health care workers putting their lives on the line to help their communities, all empowered by the generosity of supporters like you.

Many of these health workers are regular women -- moms, volunteers, midwives, doctors, aunts and grandmothers -- who wake up everyday to fight for better health for their children, families and neighbors. That's why we're taking just a moment to recognize these "health warriors" in honor of International Women's Day tomorrow.

"Health warriors" is how Dr. Andah Suryani, pictured below, describes the volunteers she works with in Indonesia. Here the risks of being a woman are exceptionally high. Many women, particularly pregnant women and new mothers, are unable to get the health care they need because it's too expensive or too far away.

Nearly 1,000 women and 7,000 newborns die from preventable causes each day -- deaths that could be stopped with better access to care. Project HOPE is empowering midwives and volunteers in rural Indonesia to save lives by reaching the most vulnerable mothers and children and ensuring that they get the resources they need to thrive.

Find out how these women are saving lives in Indonesia and fighting for HOPE and health around the globe.
