Indivisibles,

According to a NY Times/Siena poll released this weekend, Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden in five out of the six battleground states heading into the 2024 election.

Times/Siena poll showing Biden behind in Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania and up 2 points in Wisconsin.

Though we wish six states didn’t hold so much power, those are the six states that will likely decide the 2024 election.

Not only is Trump currently beating Biden on potential votes, he’s regularly 10-20 points ahead on some of the current top issues to the American people.

Times/Sienna poll showing Biden's numbers losing to Trump on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the economy, national security, and immigration but winning on abortion and democracy.

While it’s easy to dismiss these results as a single poll, the Times/Siena poll is a high-quality survey, and those numbers are roughly in line with the trends we’ve been seeing in recent polling.

We won’t sugarcoat it, this is bad. But it’s not time to panic -- it is time to get to work.

The good news about this poll is that it clearly shows which messages have not yet landed with voters, giving us a clear picture of what needs to happen between now and November 2024. We know that President Biden and Democrats have a record we can run on. That includes:

  • Historic investments in climate and green energy infrastructure
  • Major wins for unions across the country -- resetting our expectations of what workers deserve and undercutting corporate greed
  • Appointing judges at a historic pace
  • Allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices -- substantially lowering costs on life-saving medicines for millions of Americans
  • And more…

There has been a persistent gap between Americans’ understanding of Biden’s policy achievements and the actual achievements themselves. In August, only 27% of Americans knew a great deal or a good amount about Biden’s signature achievement: The Inflation Reduction Act. And while only 39% of adults said they supported the legislation, when presented with the specifics, the majority of Americans supported the individual components of the bill. That’s good news -- that means this is fixable.

Sunday marked one year until the 2024 general election. We have one year to educate the people about Biden’s impressive and impactful record, mobilize voters who can save our democracy from another Trump presidency, and get out the vote like never before. And we won’t just rely on tactics like phonebanking, textingbanking and postcards -- we’ll also deploy new tools like expanding our simple, quick, and effective Neighbor2Neighbor canvassing program to ensure every one of our progressive neighbors understands what’s at stake, what we’ve already won, and how much we stand to gain.

If you’re ready to be a part of those efforts, if this poll lit a fire underneath you, sign up to be all in to defeat Trump, and be one of the first to hit the ground to talk to voters when we roll out some of these critical tools over the next several weeks!

All In to Defeat Trump >>

 Your 5 weekly to-dos

  1. If you have a Republican representative, join our Our States, Our Fates call on Thursday, November 16 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. We are less than a year out from the election. With Trump’s numbers still holding strong, we will need to pull out every stop we have to beat back the MAGA takeover of our government, and that starts with our red districts. In this meeting, we’ll be focusing specifically on what we can do to combat MAGA state and local election subversion.
  2. If you have a Republican representative, write a letter to the editor (LTE) to hold your representative accountable for driving us toward a shutdown. For the third time this year, House Republicans are driving us to the brink of a crisis. Instead of governing, they have wasted their time on a baseless impeachment inquiry and the childish infighting that led to the election of one of the most far-right speakers of the House in history. Write an LTE to let your community know they need to hold your representative responsible for their reckless actions.
  3. If you have a Democratic representative, join our Making a Majority Cohort Call on Tuesday, November 14 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Join our final Making a Majority Cohort call where we’ll be discussing the potential government shutdown, Americans’ everyday economic well-being, and how we’ll move our Democratic districts into 2024 while we get your insight and feedback into the campaign itself over the past year. Help us make sure we are launching into the election year, setting up blue districts in the best manner possible.
  4. If you have a Democratic representative, call and tell them to hold the Supreme Court accountable by cosponsoring the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act (SCERT). SCOTUS is facing a legitimacy crisis with MAGA justices like Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito accepting lavish gifts from billionaires. These actions call into question their ability to be impartial and fair in their rulings. Check out our new unrigging the Supreme Court page to learn more and take action. When you’re done, call your representative again and demand they cosponsor the Judiciary Act of 2023. The court has been stacked with extreme MAGA justices, and the only way to protect our rights is to expand the court. Call now to make it happen!
  5. If you have a Democratic senator, call and tell them to hold the Supreme Court accountable by cosponsoring the SCERT Act. We must pass SCERT through both chambers in order to restore legitimacy to the court. It is clear that the highest court in the land must be held to reasonable ethical standards. Call now to make sure your senator agrees. When you’ve finished, call your senator again and demand they cosponsor the Judiciary Act of 2023. In addition to the ethics crisis, we’ve seen just how far-right the court-packing MAGA Republicans have pushed the Supreme Court. Expansion is the only way we return to a balanced and fair judiciary before it is too late.

P.S. We rely on grassroots supporters to help fund the tools Indivisibles use on a daily basis -- including the call pages and LTE tools on your to-do list! If you're able, pitch in today to help fund our work and keep this movement going.

Crisis in Israel/Palestine

**Content Warning: Talk about the current Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic**

Tomorrow marks one month since Hamas’ horrific attacks in Israel. Indivisible continues to join the global community in grieving the loss of over 1,400 Israelis, Americans, and foreign citizens in those attacks and echoes calls for all hostages to be released immediately.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate catastrophically with Israel’s ongoing bombardment and blockade of life-sustaining supplies like water, food, medicine, and power. As of today, more than 10,000 Palestinians have been killed, including over 4,100 children. More than 2,300 people are missing and believed to be buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

Indivisible continues to support the recommendations from progressive foreign policy leaders, compiled by the Center for International Policy (PDF), for ending the war and protecting Israeli and Palestinian lives. The necessary first step is for US leaders to push for a cessation of hostilities to prevent the further loss of civilian life and escalation of unimaginable human suffering.

This crisis is a challenge to our humanity. It calls us to lean into our solidarity, with our communities at home and with those on the other side of the globe, to fight antisemitism and Islamophobia alike. It calls us to stand bravely for the basic principle that human lives are precious. And it calls us to urge our elected officials to do the same.

Call on your members of Congress to publicly call for a humanitarian ceasefire and to use their position to push for an end to hostilities, to deliver urgently needed humanitarian assistance, and to ensure that the hostages are released. If they’ve already done so, call and thank them. Here’s a call script to use when you call your senators and another when you call your representative.

Endorsements Guide >>

Hard to believe it, but the 2024 elections are just around the corner!

In addition to doing the essential work of rooting out MAGA extremists at every level of government, we have the opportunity to elect the strongest Democrats to champion progressive priorities and defend progressive values. Since 2018, our movement has been doing just that: building power by helping to elect the next generation of bold leaders at every level of government. Indivisible groups across the country have pushed candidates on issues that matter, contacted thousands of voters, and shown that the power of our movement is impossible to ignore.

If your group is considering getting involved in 2024 elections, one of the most powerful ways you can have an impact is by making endorsements. We know elections can be intimidating! We also know that an endorsement, done correctly, is one of the most powerful tools to create change. This guide demystifies the process with advice on how best to engage in both primary and general elections.

WE LOVE TO SEE IT!

***In the 2023 Indivisible Guide, one of the most important things we wanted to see was our representatives show up as fighters! We need representatives that work for the people, not just their bank accounts and special interests! So, why not highlight those fighters? We Love To See It! will highlight the work being done by reps fighting for everyday people’s wellbeing, advancing democracy, and/or protecting personal freedoms. Let’s stand up for our representatives when they stand up for us! We Love To See It!***

Rep. Jeff Jackson, North Carolina

Picture of Rep. Jackson speaking into a microphone. Headline reads: Jeff Jackson running for N.C. attorney general after being gerrymandered out of House seat.

On Wednesday, October 25, North Carolina Republicans approved new gerrymandered maps that will drastically shift the balance of their seats in Congress next year.

In a state that was previously split 7-7 between Democratic and Republican representatives, the new maps will likely split those districts into 10 Republican districts, three Democratic districts, and one competitive district.

There’s no question this was done purely for partisan gains.

One of the casualties of this redistricting is that freshman Democratic Rep. Jeff Jackson of NC-14 will lose his seat to a newly Republican district. While many people might have sulked and walked away from the work in his position, Rep. Jackson decided immediately to shift his focus and run for the desperately important office of North Carolina Attorney General.

From that position, Jackson would be able to go after political corruption and work to help undo the harmful impacts of MAGA extremism across North Carolina. Read more about Jeff Jackson’s impressive pivot here.

**Bonus Points: If you see your rep showing up as a fighter and want to highlight them, reply to this email with a link to the story and we might feature it in our next Newsletter.**
