John, we're calling on you to advocate for students to get a quality science education!

From Nov. 14-17, the State Board of Education (SBOE) will meet in Austin to vote on which proposed new science textbooks to adopt for Texas public schools. These textbooks will be critical in guiding what students will learn about climate change and evolution for the next decade.

Can you make it to the meeting and testify for science textbooks that #TeachTheTruth? 

What: SBOE Meeting on Science Textbooks

When: Tuesday, Nov. 14, starting at 9 a.m.

Where: William B. Travis Building - 1701 N. Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas  

When you pledge to testify, you'll receive a notification via email of the testimony date and a reminder to register online by the registration deadline. You’ll also get a comprehensive guide on how to register with tips on writing and delivering your testimony.

Texas is one of the country’s largest markets for public school textbooks. The materials adopted by the SBOE this year will inform how children across the country (not just in Texas) learn about climate change, evolution, and other important topics for the next 10 years (!) until they're up for review again.

The fact is, John, historically, very few people outside the SBOE choose to get involved in the textbook adoption process. But you know who is paying attention? Oil and gas lobbyists. And they're lobbying the Board.

We need people like you to hold the SBOE accountable so that they'll put students first — not buckle under the influence of fossil fuel lobbyists and other far-right interests who want to scratch any mentions of human-caused climate change from science textbooks.

Children in Texas and across the country need and deserve to learn the truth about the world they'll inherit. Tell the SBOE not to politicize the textbook adoption process!
