Friend — Our current immigration system is broken. As he has in the past, Michael will work across the aisle to find commonsense solutions that move us forward.
That’s what he is doing with his new bipartisan, bicameral bill, the Immigration Court Efficiency and Children’s Court Act.
This bill would create an alternative to the current court system for unaccompanied migrant children. It would ensure these vulnerable children are treated with the dignity, respect, and care they deserve.
Unaccompanied minors are often put in front of judges alone in immigration courts. Their cases are legally more complex than those of adults, which has led to a backlog of more than 62,000 cases.
The Children’s Courts Act would ensure that judges are specially trained to handle these challenging cases, that children understand the process and proceedings, and that legal services are easily accessible.
This bill is supported by Democrats and Republicans in the House and the Senate. But it also needs the support of folks back home.
Will you become a citizen co-sponsor of the Immigration Court Efficiency and Children’s Court Act now? This bill is a step forward to fix our broken immigration system.
