Together, we’re working to advance housing access, affordability, and equity across California.
It’s no secret that our state faces an affordable housing crisis, with demand outweighing supply and far too many Californians unable to find an affordable home. That’s why I’ve made this one of my top priorities as your Attorney General.
This week, we’re celebrating the two-year anniversary of the Housing Justice Team within the Department of Justice. I launched this team to advance housing access, affordability, and equity across California, and we’ve made great strides.
Here are just some of our results:
→ Secured a settlement with the City of San Bernardino resulting in the development of 8,123 housing units.
→ Secured a settlement with the City of Coronado resulting in the development of 912 housing units.
→ Securing a settlement against Green Valley Corporation, a San Jose-based housing developer and property manager, after allegations that the company violated the California Tenant Protection Act by issuing unlawful rent increases and serving unlawful eviction notices.
We’ve also filed lawsuits against multiple cities for failing to comply with state housing laws and build enough housing for moderate-, low-, and very low-income Californians.
And we’re just getting started. These accomplishments are a direct result of your support in me and my team, and I am determined to keep up our work to make California a state where anyone and everyone can afford to live safe, happy lives.
