Since new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson used his very first speech as Speaker to call for closed-door cuts to Social Security and Medicare, we have been ringing alarm bells, trying to wake people up to the danger that he represents. With just 11 days until the government shutdown, the political media is waking up:

Johnson’s plan is to force Democrats behind closed doors with his Republicans. Once there, he will demand cuts to Social Security and Medicare in exchange for funding the government, raising the debt ceiling, or performing some other extremely basic government task. Then, Republicans can claim that it was a “bipartisan” vote to destroy our earned benefits.

This plan only works if Democrats go along with it. But our pressure is working. Democrats are hearing the message: A vote for MAGA Mike’s commission is a vote to cut Social Security and Medicare.
